Raymond “Sonny” Lester Barton, Sr., was born on February 29, 1936, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Raymond Leo and Freda (Douglas) Barton. He departed this life on December 9, 2024, in his home at the age of 88, or 22 in leap years.

Sonny enjoyed bowling, racing, and woodworking. He loved to travel, and loved spending time with his grandkids, literally following them all over the world! He had been working on building his coin collection.

Sonny was a supervisor at the state highway department. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Edith Perkett and Verlee Atkison; and his brother, Randy Barton.

Sonny is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Sue Barton, of the home; his children, Debroah Kincannon and Robie, Fordland, and Raymond Lester Barton, Jr., Fordland; his siblings, Mary Hall and Mike, Montana, and Ruth Ann Phelps, Springfield, and Nancy Cervantes and Sal, California; five grandchildren, Lucrisha and Ricky, Robie Jr. and Jessica, Justin, Jordan and Melissa, and Tyler; and eight great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Nola, Declan, Allie, Laila, Brooklyn, Amsley, and Parker.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 16, 2024, at Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., with interment following in Marshfield Cemetery. Visitation will be before services beginning at noon on Monday.
