Jack L. Cosby

Jackie “Jack” Leroy Cosby was born July 8, 1935 in Coffeyville, KS to John and Edith (Gowen) Cosby. He departed this life on April 30, 2023 in his home at the age of 87.

Jack worked as a truck driver for Trans-Con and Yellow Trucking. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Jack had served in the United States Army during the Korean era. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10844, a member of the Marshfield Lions Club, and a long-time volunteer and Treasurer of the Webster County Food Pantry. He was an avid gardener, giving away more vegetables than he kept for himself. Jack was known from Marshfield to Saint Louis for sharing his harvest, delivering produce all summer, but was especially popular in fall as he ran his “turnip route.”

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents; and his brother, Robert Cosby.

Jack is survived by four children, Leona Bellingroehr and husband Glenn, Marshfield, Michael Cosby and wife Dawn, Rogersville, Matthew Cosby, Marshfield, and Mark Cosby and wife Jennifer, Springfield; four grandchildren, Alea Hearod and husband Rick, Elkland, Rebecca Jennings, Marshfield, Zachary Cosby, Rogersville and Mindy Grant and husband Payne, Halfway; eight great-grandchildren, Rickie, Robie, Randie, Llogan, Connie, Betty, Lincoln and Georgia; and three great-great-grandchildren, Hudson, Penelopi, and Colter.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2023 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Marshfield, with interment following at 1:00 p.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. A rosary service with visitation to follow will be at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, in the chapel of Fraker Funeral Home, Inc.
