James (Jim) Greer
August 7, 1943 – September 26, 2021
As of September 26, 2021, Jim Greer’s work here is done. He spent his life doing the best job of making his family feel like they were the center of the world. Although it seems he would rather have spent more time with Janice, Jason and Jen, Jessica and Keith, Max, and Mitch, it was time to let his lessons live on with those he taught. He very much cared about his brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, and extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins too. His family indeed was his world.
You could always depend on Jim to do what he said he would do. He was never the type to let anyone down and instead had a knack for building people up, listening more than giving advice, a skill we can all take from him.
Depending on the day and year, you might find him: Cruising Springfield and meeting his future wife at Steak-N-Shake, being a doting dad, building the fence, calling the cows in, mowing, more mowing, heading to town on his thousandth errand, attending every activity a kid or grandkid could have, picking up a gallon of freshly squeezed milk, finding unique ways to mend, fix and build things, telling dad jokes, watching M.A.S.H. reruns, and taking his small furry companion outside as an audience for her "routine." But, of course, it would be remiss not to mention his most favorite leisure activity, spending the day at Silver Dollar City with his family, a nod to the nostalgic man Jim was.
Jim jokingly lived by the mantra from one of his all-time favorite shows, Red Green, “If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.”
In the end, we told him how much we loved him, contemplating the fact that he gave us his unconditional love, always. A graveside service will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery October 1st, 2021, at 11am, but no other services are scheduled at this time.
