Nancey Hicks

Nancey Hicks, Conway, was born March 1, 1939, in San Bernardino, CA, to Delbert and Goldie (Dexter) Lawrence. She departed this life on April 10, 2023 in her home at the age of 84.

Nancey came from a poor hardworking family who built a new life for themselves in California in the 1930’s, 40’s, and 50’s.

She was a graduate of Colton Union High School in 1953.

After graduation, she met and married James Nelson Hicks, who had a distinguished 20 year United States Air Force military career. During this time, Nancey and James travelled with their three children all over the world.

Upon his military retirement in 1974, they moved back to the Walnut Grove, Missouri area where she then enjoyed a simpler life in her later years.

Nancey was an animal lover. She cared for strays, both neglected animals and people. Nancey loved to see other people happy. She was a content housewife who adored her grandchildren and was excellent with children. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, as well as watching 50’s and 60’s television shows. She loved seeing people win on game shows.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Hicks; and brothers Ronald Lawrence and Darrold Lawrence; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Diane Johnson.

Nancey is survived by three children, Robert Wayne Hicks (Kari), Willard, Sabrina Karr, Conway, and Randy Dean Hicks, Willard; her siblings, Harvey Lawrence (Georgia), Sierra Vista, AZ, Michael Van Denabel, Indio, CA, and Jean Stephens, Huntington Beach, CA; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Nancey Hicks will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 13, 2023, in Greene Lawn Cemetery, 10940 N Farm Rd 43, Walnut Grove, MO, 65770, under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., Marshfield.
