Earnest Edward Riddle

Earnest Edward Riddle was born on August 27th, 1939, to parents Geraldine and Albert Riddle.  His early years were spent at home with his two brothers: Richard and George, and his younger sister Marcella.

Eddie passed away at Marshfield Care Center on June 4th, 2024. He let us know on the evening before that he was tired but in no pain and was ready to join his beloved wife. Eddie knew Jesus Christ as his savior and is now walking the streets of gold singing the hymns that he dearly loved.

Known to everyone as “Ed” or “Eddie” he grew up on the same street as his maternal grandfather George Ross.  Eddie loved spending time with his grandfather fishing in  a stream, hunting in the small woods by their homes and living an outdoors existence, that he loved. Later in life Ed would regale his family with many adventurous tales from the childhood period of his life that he thrived in.

Eddie met and married the only woman he would ever love, Paulette in 1959. Paulette and Edward enjoyed a lengthy and loving marriage for the sixty-three years they were together. They not only traveled to many places but enjoyed boating, fishing, casinos, camping, and their greatest joy family gatherings. Paulette preceded Eddie in death on October 7, 2022.

The most important role that Eddie would play in life was the role of “Dad”. Eddie is survived by his three daughters and husbands: Lisa and Larry Reeves, Shelley and Toby Claxton, and Ginny and Keith Barton. Eddie was not only known as Dad to his three children but also countless cousins, nieces and nephews that Eddie was caretaker to for periods of time. He absolutely loved children. He had a way of making every child feel like they were his favorite and making them believe they could do anything they wanted with their lives. He was always ready with a story or instruction from swimming lessons to his endless tales of the west. He loved the outdoors and showed us all the fun that could had in them. He took care of us all and will be greatly missed every day.

Eddie was a very important part of his grandchildren’s life. Before they became school age Eddie was the babysitter for most of them. His Grandchildren included: Andrew and Tiffany Wooden, Jessica and Braden Daugherty, Ben and Breanna Collins, Aleshia Claxton, Austin Barton, and Hunter Barton and great grandchildren Jeremiah Wooden, Jackson Wooden, Juliannah Wooden, Braleigh Wooden and Willa Daugherty. These Grandchildren will forever feel blessed to have been with him so much in their youth. He never once got tired and never refused to take care of them. He not only managed their earliest education but showed them all what it is to be cherished and loved.
