Melvin (Mel) Lewis Troyer of Marshfield, Missouri was born October 31, 1944 in Springfield, Missouri to William Lewis Troyer and Olive Katherine (Kellogg). He departed this life on June 5, 2023 at the Marshfield Care Center at age 78, and is now in the loving hands of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mel was a member of the Marshfield United Methodist Church. He was an active leader and member in the United Methodist Men, Chancel Choir, Church Council and Trustees. He could always be counted on to help with projects. He was named to the Extension Leaders Honor Roll for his work for the University of Missouri Extension Programs in Webster County. His professional life began as a teacher and then on to the Insurance Industry as one of the top Loss Control Specialists. He graduated from Drury University, received a Master’s degree from Western Michigan University and studied toward a Protestant Ministry at Pacific School of Religion in CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Beverly Lucille Polasik and a brother Edward (Ed) William Troyer.
He is survived by his wife, Mardellya M. (Owens) Troyer, of the home; two daughters and two sons - Jenny Troyer-Gelb, Canton, GA; Dr. Kevin Powers and Traci “Woo”, Hollister, MO; Scott and Nancy Doherty, Lake Geneva, WI; Eric and Laura Worcester, Moran, WY. Three grandchildren; Carter A. Worcester, Maya A. Worcester and Avason-Bae Powers. His sister, Mary Lou Davenport of River Falls, WI; and sister-in-law Kathy Troyer of San Jose, CA.
Mel is loved by countless nieces, nephews, family and friends. You could count on him for help, kindness, joy, games and jokes, and oh, the Halloween/birthday fun was always great! He authored a book of poetry; Port of Entry, Poems by Melvin L Troyer. Poems from his book have been used in memorials, weddings and anniversary celebrations. Another passion was earth science and the study of rocks, minerals and fossils.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday June 16, 2023, at the Marshfield, United Methodist Church. Rev. Kim Polchow and Rev. Wanda Heidemann will lead the service, under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home, Inc. Inurnment will be at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia, KS to be announced at a later date. For those desiring, contributions may be made to Marshfield United Methodist Church or St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital and left in the care of Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., P.O.
