Joe David Lurvey, 79, Springfield, MO, formerly of Marshfield, MO, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at The Maples in Springfield, Missouri as a result of heart complications that began in January.

Joe was born on May 31, 1942 to Sam and Ruby (McQuerter) Lurvey in Marshfield, MO. He grew up on a dairy farm in the Northview, MO area. He graduated from Marshfield High School in 1960. Joe met Margaret Hall working at his uncle’s service station in Springfield, Missouri and later married her on December 26, 1966.

During the time that Joe lived in Marshfield, he was active in the Marshfield community. Joe was a successful, well-known businessman. He and Margaret owned a service station and then the Lurvey Furniture and Carpet Shop for 44 years. He served the people of Marshfield over the years in various capacities including Marshfield’s City Council, Marshfield Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Marshfield Development League, and Webster County’s American Cancer Society. Joe was involved in the churches of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and Marshfield United Methodist church through numerous committees, as Sunday School Superintendent, and as treasurer. His faith in God and Jesus carried him through all seasons in life. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, travel, genealogy, Missouri State basketball, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Jud, Nixa, MO and Jim, Brookline Station, MO.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, Springfield, his three children, David and wife Angela, Springfield, MO; Mitzy, Denver, CO and Doug and wife Erin, Springfield, MO; his sister, Cara Hibbard, Harrah, OK; his four grandchildren, Evan, Elli, Max, and Quinn, Springfield, MO, and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Haymes Chapel Cemetery, Marshfield, Missouri under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., Marshfield. No formal visitation due to covid. Body will be available for viewing until 1 pm on Sunday at Fraker Funeral Home.
