Robert W. Lummis
ROBERT WILLIAM LUMMIS, was born April 6, 1942, in West Plains, Missouri, to William Ralph and Mary K (Gillespie) Lummis. At age 6 he, his little brother, and mother moved to Strafford, where he spent most of his childhood.
After high school he worked for McKee Radio Supply in Kansas City. In 1965, he joined the U.S. Navy, doing two tours in Vietnam, serving as an Electronic technician (communications) Petty Officer 2nd Class. He served aboard the USS Hanson and USS Frank Knox. After discharge in February 1968, he moved to Springfield, Missouri.
In 1974 he graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology – Electronics.
He Spent the rest of his career in the telecommunications industry, primarily designing radio systems as a wireless services supervisor for Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He travelled extensively for work around the Pacific Rim and instilled a love of travel and other cultures in his children. Bob was an avid bicyclist and also loved woodworking, photography and gardening. He was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church his entire life, most recently at Marshfield United Methodist.
On September 28, 1968, Robert married Patsy Graves. To that union 3 children were born: Jane, Natalie, and William.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary K. Gillespie, his father and step-mother, Ralph and Irene Lummis, and his brother Perry Lummis.
He is survived by his wife Patsy, his children Jane (Todd) Murphy, Natalie (Nick) Conner and William Lummis and his grandchildren, Catherine Kearbey and Michael Conner.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon, Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Marshfield United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 12, 2022 in Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery – Springfield, with full military honors.
