Wanda Elaine Mason

Wanda Elaine Mason, Marshfield, was born October 20, 1927, to Jacob Lester and Hettie Lucille (Garrett) Bashor, and departed this life July 20, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lynn Mason; one daughter, Janice Wheeler; one son, Roger Mason; one grandchild, Randi Mason; and many of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her two daughters, Martha Jones, and husband Everett, of Grovespring, Mo; Raylene Mason, of Platte City, Mo.; one sister, Marilyn Foster of Union Star, Mo.; six grandchildren, Denise Lewis, of Marshfield, Mo; Teresa Williams, of Lebanon, Mo; Brent Jones, of Lebanon, Mo; Taylor Joslin, of Pleasant Valley, Mo; Courtney Austin, of Montreal, Mo; Heather Gulley, of Bolivar, Mo, and adopted granddaughter, Kerrisa Farrow, of Marshfield, Mo ; Eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

At the age of 94, she's had many titles. Daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was also Mrs. Mason, or just Miss Wanda, and even a Miss Lynn thrown in on occasion.

In 1946 she met the man she knew she wanted to marry, at the Chase Candy Factory in St. Joseph, Mo. It didn't take long for either of them to realize that they were meant to be together, and they married six months later, on October 20th of the same year.

Four children later, and a life and business in Texas, the farm life called to them again. Well, to him, at least. And, as always, where he went, she went, too. From an ad in a magazine, Lynn found the small town of Rader, Mo., and they were finally home.

Between milking cows, growing a garden, doing many loads of laundry, washing lots of dishes, and a whole lot of cooking for her family, she eventually became....grandma. Her favorite title, in all of its variations. And a name that almost everyone would come to call her, no matter who they were.

Her family and friends have a million stories to share about her, full of love and funny moments, but most of them will be about food. She always seemed to be wearing an apron, and was known far and wide for her cooking. Everything from fried chicken, hot rolls (aka: Wanda's Wonderful buns), cinnamon rolls, apple dumplings, banana nut bread, pumpkin bread, and pound cake. Just to name a few. Her family, friends, and even the hay hands on the farm, never went away from her table hungry.

She and Lynn were long time church members of Conway Christian Church. In recent years she enjoyed the wonderful fellowship of Gary and Diane Davenport, of Mt. Sinai Church in Marshfield.
