John Edwin Strobel

 
 

John Edwin Strobel, 92, passed back to our Lord on Thursday, February 17, 2022 in Andover, Kansas.

John was preceded in death by his wife Mary and his brothers Rudy (Rudolph) and Rick (Richard) Strobel.

John was born on April 7, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri to Rudolph and Opal Catherine Strobel. He attended St. Michaels Grade School and graduated in 1947 from East High School in Kansas City, Missouri.

John worked at Luziers, Inc. after graduation where he met Mary Ficken who became his bride June 10, 1950 and the love of his life.

John joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1949, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 406 Infantry Regiment, 102 Infantry Division stationed in Kansas City, Missouri; because this was during the Korean War he was assigned as both active and reserve duty. John was an “E7” Sergeant First Class when he was discharged in 1958.

John was employed at Schenley’s Inc. in 1952 and then Kraft Foods until 1955 when he was employed by Castle Metals in Kansas City, Missouri where he became a sales representative and recognized for his achievements in 1965 with the “One Million Dollar Salesman’s Club” and again in 1972 in the “Presidents Club.” In 1961 John was transferred to Wichita, Kansas as sales rep in western Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado. John retired from Castle Metals on June 30, 1990.

While living in Wichita John enjoyed volunteering with the Boy Scouts and assisted them on many trips, camping and Christmas tree sales, one of his proudest moments as a scout leader was when his son John Richard earned his Eagle badge.

In 1976 John and Mary moved to Andover, Kansas where they were very involved in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a Knights of Columbus member.

In March of 1992 they moved to Marshfield, Missouri where they built their home and he became an active member of the community as a volunteer in Emergency Management and a Deputy Director for the county. In 2009 he initiated the building of a Veteran Monument in Marshfield, Missouri.

John is survived by his children, Catherine Ann Strobel of North Carolina, John Richard Strobel of Conway, Missouri, Julie Marie and her husband Kevin Raven of Lenexa, Kansas, Lisa Diann and her husband Charles Raymond Allen of Derby, Kansas and Laura Louise and her husband Jerry Friesen of Wichita, Kansas, special relatives Kathleen and Bill Green of Nixa, MO, and their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John was a kind and generous man of God and will be missed by family and friends.

A Rosary Service will be held at noon, Monday, March 21, 2022 at Fraker Funeral Funeral Home, Inc., 1131 State Hwy. A, Marshfield, MO 65706. Interment with full military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Rd. Springfield, MO 65804.
