Sam R. Sullivan

 
 

Sam Raymond Sullivan, Springfield, was born March 14, 1943, to Romain and Shirley (Mason) Sullivan in Springfield, MO. He departed this life February 18, 2023, in Cox South at the age of 79.

Sam is a retired Machinist and farmer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jim Sullivan, Joe Sullivan, and John Sullivan.

 Sam met his wife, Vi, in Springfield when she came from Hawaii to get her teaching degree from SMS.  He followed her to California where they started their 58-year marriage and had their son Darren. 

Sam attended Compton Community College and opened a machine shop with a business partner.  Sam returned to Springfield with his family in 1981 where he continued his machinist career and started farming.  

Sam became a disciplined vegan and was passionate about fitness, nutrition, health, & safety.  He was an avid bicyclist and frequently rode long distances with many friends.  His body & fitness metrics were better than most, even people half his age.   

Sam became the foundation for the Sullivan family who helped and comforted many when needed.  He was highly respected among family & friends and was frequently consulted for a wide range of topics.  

 He is survived by his wife, Vi Sullivan; one son, Darren Sullivan, St. Peters, MO; two grandchildren, Sadie Sullivan, Sophia Sullivan; his siblings, Becky Perkins and Larry, Marshfield, Cathy Sullivan, Nixa, Jane Enge, Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 24, 2023, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Fraker Funeral Home, Inc.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment to follow in Pleasant View Cemetery under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home, Inc.
