Zula Juanita (Hodgin) Tunnell was born June 3, 1916 to William J. “Bill” and Monta (Hannah) Hodgin near Marshfield. She passed away August 10, 2021 at the age of 105.

She grew up in the Marshfield area and graduated from Marshfield High School class of 1933.

On May 22, 1936, she and George Tunnell were married at Ozark, Missouri. They were blessed with 3 children. Mary Anne (Bob Ankrom), Tommy (Louella) and Nancy Jo (Jimmy Sjothun.) All survive her. She had 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Monta Hodgin, her brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Vera Hodgin, her husband George, and two grandchildren, Amy and Jacob Sjothun.

She and George saw many lean years raising their family, but she always worked hard and made things do. Their marriage lasted 65 years until George’s death in 2001.

She and George attended Mt. Sinai Christian Church of which they were members. They enjoyed attending Cass Chapel with Fred and Mary Willis and later, she went with Nancy and Jim to New Beginning.

She and George played Rook every Wednesday evening with Fred and Velma Rost. She said that she and Velma always got a “beating” every Wednesday evening.

She loved her family and everyone was special to her. She was so proud of the accomplishments of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She was a strong lady and lived alone until the last two years of her life. She mowed her own yard until she was past 90, though you could tell it because she couldn’t see very well.

She loved our Lord and wanted to go to her heavenly home.

Her life began and ended within ¼ mile apart.

Thank you to Dr. Robinson, Sharon, Misty and the rest of his staff for their kindness.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2021 in Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Marshfield, under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home, Inc.
